AI Watermark Remover for Documents

How do I remove AI watermarks from a document?

Upload the file and the tool strips its C2PA provenance manifest, EXIF and XMP blocks and AI-generator markers, then returns a cleaned copy to download. Text inside the document is also scanned for invisible Unicode carriers.

  • Supports PDF, DOCX, ODT, PNG, JPEG, SVG, HTML and Markdown.
  • 25 MiB per file; files are processed in memory and discarded.
  • Metadata stripping does not remove pixel-level marks such as SynthID.
  • For documents you own or are authorised to process.

Strip AI-provenance metadata from documents and images you own. C2PA, EXIF, XMP and generator markers — removed while the content stays byte-identical.

What gets removed from each format

FormatWhat is stripped
PNGC2PA chunks, EXIF, XMP, tEXt/zTXt metadata
JPEGC2PA APP segments, EXIF, XMP, JUMBF boxes
PDFXMP packet, Info dictionary, AI-generator markers
DOCXCustom XML parts, docProps metadata, application tags
ODTGenerator fields, creator metadata
HTMLGenerator meta tags, JSON-LD provenance blocks
MarkdownYAML frontmatter AI keys
SVGMetadata elements, XMP packets, editor namespaces

How it works

  1. Upload your fileChoose a file or drag it onto the drop zone. Files are limited to 25 MiB.
  2. InspectThe tool scans for metadata segments and reports what it found — nothing is modified yet.
  3. Clean and downloadThe file is rewritten without the metadata segments and downloaded automatically.
Clean the file as the last step before publishing or delivering. Running it through another editor afterwards can reintroduce metadata from that tool.

Combine with text cleaning

For documents, metadata removal is only half the job. The body text can still contain invisible Unicode characters. For full cleaning: upload the file to strip its metadata, then copy the body text into the Text tab to clean the character layer.

Frequently asked questions

What AI watermarks do documents carry?

Documents and images can carry AI-provenance metadata: C2PA manifests (Content Credentials), EXIF and XMP blocks, generator tags in DOCX/ODT custom XML, XMP packets in PDFs, and AI fields in YAML frontmatter for Markdown. These name the generating tool and can include creation timestamps.

Will removing metadata change the visible content?

No. Images keep their exact pixels, documents keep their exact text and layout. Only metadata segments are removed, so file size drops slightly and nothing visible changes.

Which file formats are supported?

PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF, DOCX, ODT, HTML, Markdown and plain text. Each is handled by a format-specific cleaner that removes known metadata segments while preserving the content.

Can I clean a PDF that was generated by an AI tool?

Yes. The tool strips the XMP packet, Info dictionary entries and known AI-generator markers from PDFs. Provenance buried in unparseable object streams is reported rather than silently ignored.

Can I clean Word documents?

Yes. DOCX files are ZIP packages of XML parts, several of which hold application and custom metadata. Upload the file and the package is rewritten without those parts. Clean the body text separately in the Text tab.

Will re-exporting add metadata back?

Yes. Running a cleaned file through another editor can reintroduce metadata from that tool. Clean as the last step before publishing or delivering.
